In the Reddit post titled "IIT Rant", the student expressed disillusionment with their experience at the prestigious institution, saying, "I feel lost and do not have the enthusiasm in the same manner that I had during my JEE days. The grading system here is so heavily dependent on the subjectivity of the TA's (Teaching Assistants) that it defeats the whole purpose of education."
The post further highlighted the disparity between the institute's perceived reputation and the actual experience of students, with the student lamenting, "People outside of this college (including my parents) think of it as a 'golden gateway to supreme education', but it is exactly the opposite."
While NDTV cannot independently verify the post, it has garnered significant attention online, with nearly 100 comments and around 250 votes on Reddit. Users have been actively engaging in discussions, sharing their own experiences and concerns regarding the education system.
Responding to the student's concerns, one user commented, "Try not to get disenchanted with the system. Try putting in your best and then leave the rest. Relax and be cool." Another user encouraged resilience, stating, "The entire process makes you mentally stronger to handle much bigger setbacks. Try lasting thru it and simply try enjoying it."
Earlier this month, a report in Hindustan Times raised alarm about the number of students without job offers at IIT Bombay, citing approximately 712 out of 2,000 registered students. However, IIT Bombay countered the report with its own survey, clarifying that only 6.1 per cent of graduates are actively seeking jobs, while the majority secured employment through the institute's placement process.
